Boot into Recovery Mode on Cyanogen and Android

Booting into recovery mode on any Android device is not a difficult task. You can just press and hold the Home + Volume up + down + Power buttons simultaneously in order to boot into the recovery mode.

The method of booting into the recovery mode may slightly change with different smartphones. But here in the case of CyanogenMod, you don’t even need to press the combinations of buttons in order to enter into the recovery mode.

Why may you need to boot into Recovery Mode?

You may need to boot into recovery mode if you want to flash custom ROM on your phone. From the Recovery Mode, you can also wipe/cache partition, to say the least.

Another thing you can do from recovery mode is to be able to factory reset the Android phone without unlocking the device.

Enable Advanced reboot feature in CyanogenMod

In order to able to boot into the recovery mode, you need to enable Advanced Reboot feature on your Android device. Here is how to do it.

Step 1: At first unlock your phone and go to Settings.

Step 2: Now scroll down and select Developer Option.

Step 3: In Developer Option, turn on Advanced Reboot.

Now that you have enabled Advanced Reboot option to proceed with the steps mentioned below to learn how to boot into recovery mode.

Step 1: Press and hold the Power button.

Step 2: A Pop-up will appear on your screen, Tap on Reboot.

Wait for a while, and you will be taken into the Recovery Mode in Cyanogen OS running smartphone.

Fix 1: Restart, Forget and Reconnect

As I said earlier, the WiFi problem mentioned above can be a temporary issue and can be resolved with a simple restart.

So press and hold the power key for a few seconds. When the options are displayed on your screen, tap on Reboot.

After the reboot, go to Settings and open WiFi. Press and hold on the WiFi hotspot that is giving you the problem and select “Forget” option.

Rescan for the available WiFi hotspot and try to reconnect to the WiFi hotspot again and see if you are able to connect to the WiFi.

Fix 2: Check WiFi Router

If the problem is not at your phone’s end, then it can be a problem with your WiFi router. It is a good idea to give your WiFi router a quick reboot every now and then as it may fix any temporary issues with the router.

To restart the WiFi router, turn off the router if any dedicated buttons are available. Remove the ethernet cable and then unplug the router from the power outlet. Leave it idle for a few minutes and then reconnect the router and power it on.

Fix 3: Assign IP Address Manually

If forget network did not fix the problem then you can try to assign IP address manually to the connection. Here is how to assign IP address manually to WiFi network in Android.

Go to Settings and tap on WiFi.

Turn on the WiFi and search for the problematic WiFi connection.

Long press on the WiFi connection and select “Modify Network” option.

Check “Show advanced option“.

In “IP Settings” tap on DHCP and select “Static”.

In the IP address field enter the IP address of your choice and leave other variables untouched and tap Save.

While entering the IP address make sure that you enter a unique IP address so that the device does not conflict with other devices connected to the same network.

For example: In the Android WiFi settings, check your Gateway below the IP address. If the Gateway is 192.168.49.1, then enter your IP address as 192.168.49.6.

Fix 4: Check Router Security Settings

If you have recently made changes to the security settings of your WiFi router, then you may face obtaining IP address problem on your Android phone. Try disabling settings like Mac Binding, IP reserve etc. to see if it works. Also, make sure that you have setup DHCP and set the IP range properly.

If nothing seems working you may want to reset your WiFi router. Resetting your WiFi router is easy. Look for the reset button around your router mostly at the back of your router. Press and hold the reset button for a few second until the lights start blinking. Leave the router for a few minutes and then reconnect the plug.

Fix 5: Use WiFi Fixer App

Android developers have made several apps to fix WiFi issues with your Android phone. These apps usually fix common WiFi problem and help you connect your phone to the WiFi hotspot.

One such app is Wifi Fixer. Download and install the WiFi fixer app from the Google Play store.

Open the app, and it will start scanning for any network problems. Make sure your WiFi is turned on and then let the app scan for the available WiFi network and fix if any issues with the network.

Now select the account which you had added previously, and set the Sync settings as you liked.

Modify Host File

Note: This method is only for the rooted Android phones.

  • At first Download the Root Explorer from here.
  • Once downloaded, Install it on your device.
  • Now Launch the Root Explorer and on the Top screen select “mount r/w as r/o”.
  • Now open the etc. file.
  • Then open the Host file.
  • Now change the 2nd IP Address by adding # in front of in.

4 Ways to Boot Android Phone into Safe Mode

  4.  Once your device has been shut down completely, press the Power key and hold it until it shows a pop-up confirmation for safe mode.
  5. Once the pop-up for Safe mode appears on your screen, select the option.
  6. Wait for approx 1-2 minutes to enter into the Safe mode.

That’s it. Once the process is completed, you have successfully booted your Android device into Safe mode.


3. Boot into safe mode while rebooting

If Method 1 didn’t work for you, this step should work. This process is similar to the first method with a slight change.

  1. Press the power key for approx 20 seconds.
  2. Now instead of pressing the power off option, you need to press on the Reboot option.
  3. Now while your device is restarting, hold both up and down volume keys simultaneously for approx 30 seconds.
  4. Once the pop-up for Safe mode appears on your screen, confirm by tapping on Safe Mode.
  5. Wait for 1-2 minutes to enter into the Safe mode.

4. Use the physical key combination

  1. Press and hold the power key.
  2. Select Power off to turn off your phone completely.
  3. Once your device is completely powered off, press the Volume up + Volume down + Power key simultaneously for few seconds.
  4. The device will enter into the recovery mode.
  5. Be cautious while working with the recovery mode.
  6. Under Recovery Mode, select the Safe Mode option to boot into Safe Mode.
