[Fix] Help! My Android Phone speaker not working

Has your Android phone speaker stopped working all of a sudden? If your Android phone speakers are not working, it can be due to several reasons, including a hardware malfunction.

In this article, we take you through a couple of troubleshooting tips to helps you resolve the Android phone no sound from speaker issue.

1. Restart your phone

As simple as it may sound, a simple reboot can fix many issues that may seem major at first with your Android phone. Several users have reported that restarting the phone has helped them resolve issues with phone’s speakers.

  1. Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds.
  2. Tap on Power off.
  3. Press the Power button again to power on the device.
  4. Check if the phone’s speakers are working again.

2. Remove and reinsert the SD card

This is an old Android bug and unlikely to affect the latest version of Android. However, if your smartphone has an SD card inserted, remove and reinsert it.

  1. Eject the SIM card tray using the ejector tool.
  2. Remove the SD card.
  3. Clean and reinsert the SD card.
  4. Reboot the smartphone and check for any improvements.

  1. Check if Do Not Disturb is turned on. This handy feature is known to create issues with the system speakers.
  2. You can disable DND from the settings or notification panel.

Check media volume

  1. Some Android devices offer volume control for media, call and notification separately.
  2. Press the volume button and then pull down the sound settings from the notification panel.
  3. Adjust the media volume control.
  4. If available, enable Use Volume keys for media option as well.

Check app sound settings 

  1. If the issue is occurring with an instant messaging app or media app, check the app sound setting.
  2. Most of the third-party apps, like Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp, come with built-in sound settings.
  3. When using the app, make sure the speaker icon is not muted.

Check for the connected Bluetooth devices

  1. If you have a Bluetooth device as a speaker or headphone connected, your Android phone will continue to play voice over the headphone.
  2. Tap the Bluetooth icon on the caller screen to disconnect the device.
  3. Alternatively, turn off Bluetooth to disconnect all the connected Bluetooth devices.

Restart phone in Safe Mode

  1. If a third-party app is creating issues with the phone’s speaker, you can find it by booting into Safe mode.

  3. Once in safe mode, try using the phone’s speaker.
  4. If the Android phone speaker works in Safe mode, the issue is caused by a third-party app.
  5. Find and uninstall the app to fix the issue.

4. Reset your phone to factory settings

As a last resort, reset your phone to factory default. Resetting the phone to factory default will remove all the apps and remove personal files saved in the internal storage. Make sure you create a backup of your Android phone before proceeding.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to General Management.
  3. Tap on Reset.
  4. On Non-Samsung device Go to Settings > Additional Settings > Backup and Reset.

  5. First, select the Reset Settings option.
  6. Reset Settings option will only reset phone’s settings to factory default and does not erase any data or apps.
  7. If the issue persists, tap on Factory Data Reset.
  8. Tap on Reset and enter your PIN or Pattern.

  10. Android phone will now reset to factory default.

5. Check for hardware failure

If the issue persists after a hard reset, check the phone’s speakers for hardware issues. Accidentals drops or contact with an excessive amount of liquid can damage hardware components.

Take the smartphone to an authorised service centre. If under warranty, the service centre should repair or replace the component free of charge.
