Disable “Windows XP & Vista will No Longer be Supported” message in Chrome

Microsoft has long ended its support for the Windows XP and Vista OS. However, some users still prefer to use these versions of the OS for several reasons. Now some users have reported the following message while using the Chrome browser on their Windows XP / Vista computers.

This computer will soon stop receiving Google Chrome updates because Windows XP and Windows Vista will no longer be supported.

If you click the Learn more link provided with the message, the users are recommended to upgrade their OS to the latest version of Windows for security and stability reasons.

We will tell you why this message is necessary and a good initiative by the search giant later in the article.

But, first, let’s take a look at how to disable “This computer will soon stop receiving Google Chrome updates because Windows XP and Windows Vista will no longer be supported” Chrome message in Windows XP / Vista.

Disable end of support for Windows XP and Vista notice in Google Chrome

To disable the message we need to modify Google Chrome properties and add some parameters. Here is how to do it.

  1. Right-click on the Chrome shortcut on the Desktop on your Vista / XP PC.
  2. Select Properties from the option.
  3. Click the Shortcut tab when the Google Chrome Properties window appears.
  4. In the Target field, you can see the Chrome .exe path.
This computer will soon stop receiving Google Chrome updates
  5. At the end of the present string in the Target text box, add the following text:
    –disable-infobars
  6.  Make sure there is some blank space between the existing string and newly added text.
  7. Click on Apply and OK to save the changes.
  8. Relaunch Google Chrome on your XP / Vista computer. You can now use the browser without the end of the support message.

Why this message is displayed?

This message is displayed by Google Chrome and not Microsoft. The “This computer will soon stop receiving Google Chrome updates” message is shown to make the user aware of the security risks of using an OS that is not supported by the OEM anymore.

Since Microsoft has discontinued its support for XP and Vista, Google will also stop supporting the Chrome version on XP and Vista due to security risks.

The best course of action here is to upgrade to the newer version of Windows OS to receive regular security updates and also to be able to use the newer version of Chrome.

That said, for some people changing the OS may not be an option as they still require the Windows XP or Vista to run their projects or other stuff.

By using the Infobar trick you can disable the pop-up message in Chrome warning of the end of support from the OS and the browser.

Do let us know why you use the Windows XP and Vista edition of the OS in the comments below.

How to Upload Images to Instagram from PC

Instagram is one of the most popular social networking apps. While other social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are accessible from both the computer as well as smartphones, Instagram has limited the use of Instagram to smartphones only. Charge Lenovo IdeaPad Laptop Faster using Rapid Charge

Lenovo’s new IdeaPad laptops are one of the most affordable premium looking Windows 10 laptops that you can buy today. The slim bezels and the latest Intel chips make it a goto laptop for Windows 10 users. That said, the new Lenovo laptops also come with some cool software tricks up its sleeves such as the rapid charge mode that allows your laptop to charge faster.

The Rapid Charge mode in Lenovo Vantage software allows you to charge your Lenovo IdeaPad laptop faster than normal. By default, this feature is disabled in your laptop, but you can enable it by following these steps.

Rapid Charge Lenovo IdeaPad Laptop

  1. Type Lenovo Vantage in the search bar. If you don’t have the software installed, download it from the Lenovo website.
  2. Click on the Lenovo Vantage app to open it.
  3. Make sure you are connected to the internet and wait for the app to load.
  4. From the Welcome screen, click on Hardware Settings.

  7. Click the toggle switch to turn on Rapid Charge Mode on your Lenovo IdeaPad laptop.
  8. That’s it. Now your Lenovo Laptop will charge quicker than normal.

The Rapid Charge feature in Lenovo IdeaPad 330S and other variants is a handy feature if you use your laptop on battery most of the time. However, the Rapid Mode is not recommended if you keep your laptop connected to the power cable all the time.

For this, Lenovo has Conservation Mode. The Conservation Mode limits the battery charge to 50-60% to maximize battery life. You can keep the laptop plugged into AC all the time when this mode is enabled.

  1. In the Lenovo Vantage app, go to Hardware Settings.
  2. Click on the Power option.
  3. Scroll down and enable “Conservation Mode“.

  4. Now you can keep working on your laptop by keeping it plugged into AC without worrying about overcharging your laptop.

However, note that you cannot use both the Rapid Charge and Conservation Mode feature simultaneously. One of the features needs to be disabled as per your need to use other feature.

Turn off VLC Media Player Track Change Popup Notifications in Windows 10

VLC Media Player is one of the most popular media player available for Windows computers. I use it for watching movies as well listen to my collection of video/audio songs. While listening to the audio or videos songs VLC Media Player displays a pop-up notification every time the track changes.

The VLC media player track change notification can be annoying for many. Fortunately, VLC has included a way to disable or enable the notifications in the preferences menu. Here is how to do

Disable VLC Media Player Track Change Popup Notifications

  1. Launch VLC Media Player.
  2. Click on Tools and select Preferences.
    Disable VLC Player Popup Notification
  3. In the Interface tab, locate “Show Media Change Popup” section.
    Disable VLC Player Popup Notification
  4. Click the drop-down menu and select Never.
  5. Click the Save button and close the VLC Media Player.
  6. Relaunch the player again and try to play your playlist.
  7. Now you should not get any popup notifications from the VLC player when the next song plays.

 Use Focus Assist

If you don’t want to disable the VLC media player notifications completely but just stop it from it appearing on the screen, you can use Focus Assist in Windows 10.

The focus assist feature in Windows 10 allows you to stop any non-priority notifications from any app appearing on your screen while you are working. This is similar to the DND feature on your Android smartphone. This also applies to the VLC player.

  • To enable Focus Assist, click on the Action Center icon.
  • Click on Focus Assists to set it to Priority Only.
    Disable VLC Player Popup Notification
  • Now instead of displaying a pop-up notification for the next song on the screen, all the notifications will be shown in the notifications area only when you click the Action Center icon.

Since the average songs are just about a few minutes long, the popup notifications appear frequently enough to become annoying while you are working on your computer.

However, you can easily disable the VLC Media player track change notification by following steps from this article.

How to Export Google Keep Notes to Evernote

Google Keep and Evernote are two best note-taking apps that are available on multiple platforms. While Google Keep has taken a simplistic approach to its working, Evernote is a full-fledged note-taking app that looks more serious in its appearance. I use Google Keep for chit-chat work like creating a to-do list, noting the shopping list etc. On the other hand, Evernote has all my writing samples, my articles sources, revisions, long-term tasks and more.

Now if you are someone who has finally decided to move from Google Keep to Evernote, you may want to know how to export Google Notes to Evernote. While there is no one-click Keep to Evernote export feature in Google Keep, here are a few ways that can help you do the same.

For some reason, Evernote does not have import from Keep option but it does have an Import from OneNote option. While we expect and wait for Google and Evernote to have export function up and running, here is how you can export notes from Keep to Evernote in the meantime.

Also read: Best Productivity Apps You Should Know

1. Send Individual Notes to Evernote

If you have only a few notes that need to be exported to Evernote, Google Keep has a Send option. While it is not explicitly made for export, it does the job perfectly fine.

The Send feature in Keep allows you to share individual notes with someone over Email, WhatsApp and other apps. Evernote is one of those apps.

On your Android phone, open Google Keep.

Now find the note that you want to export to Evernote.

Long press on the note and tap “three-dots” on the top-right corner.

Tap Send. It will open a number of apps that you can use to send the Keep note.

Keep-to-evernote-Send

Tap Add to Evernote.

That’s it. The note will now open in  Evernote. Tap Save on Evernote to save the note.

Easy? yes. But, here are a few things you should know.

  • You can only send one note at a time using this method.
  • This works on only smartphones and I have tested only on an Android device.
  • If you export a checklist, Evernote will not retain the format, but only texts from the checklist.
  • You will also lose the date of Note creation and a new date will be added.

2. Send Through Email Directly to Evernote

If you have Evernote installed on your PC, you can send individual notes to Evernote account. Your Evernote account comes with a unique email address which can be used to send notes over email. You can also do the same from your Android phone as well.

On your PC –

  • Launch the Evernote app.
  • Go to Tools > Account Info.

Evernote Tools Account Info PC

  • Copy the email address shown alongside “Email Notes to“.

Evernote Email ID

On Android Phone –

  • Open Evernote. Tap the three horizontal bars and then tap Settings.
  • Tap on Account Info and open Evernote Email.

    Evernote-on-Android-Settings-Account

    Evernote-email-Android

  • Tap Add to Contacts.

  • You can copy the Evernote email from the Contacts page.

Once you have the Evernote email ID, do the following.

On your Android phone, open Google Keep.

Long press on any one of the note, tap “Three-dots” and select Send.

Keep-to-evernote-Send

Tap the Gmail app. When the app opens, enter the Evernote email address. Tap Send.

Wait for Gmail to upload the note and send the email. The Google Keep note will be available on your Evernote account now.

While this is a handy workaround, the downside here is also the same as the first method. You can only send on Note at a time.

Open the Evernote app on your Android phone and find the saved note and the email address. Copy and use it to send emails.

3. Export All Google Keep Notes to Evernote

What we are going to do is upload Google Keep notes to Google Docs one by one and then download the Zip file containing all the Google Keep notes.

Later import the unzipped Keep docs folder to Evernote using the import folder function. However, since the Google Docs file will be in Docx format, to view the exported notes you need to use any third-party app that can open Docs file on your phone or MS Word / Wordpad in PC.

Open Google Keep on Android phone.

Long press on the note that you want to export,  tap three-dots,  tap Copy to Google Docs.

Gogle-keep-evernote-export-copy-to-Google-docs

Do this with all the Keep notes. You need to do this one by one. If you select all the notes and copy it to Google Docs at once, you will find a single Doc file with all the notes merged into it.

Open Google Drive on your PC.

Go to Recent folder. Select all the Google Keep notes you copied to the Google Docs.

Right-click on any one of the selected file and select Download.

Download Goole Keep Docs Zip Folder

A zip file containing all your Keep notes will download to your PC.

Extract the zip folder on your PC.

Open Evernote on PC and go to Tools > Import Folder.

Evernote PC Tools Import Folder

Click Add > select the extracted notes folder and click OK.

Add Folder Evernote

That’s it. All the Google Keep notes are now available on Evernote.  As I said earlier, the notes will open in Wordpad or MS word or other similar programs only. The notes will also lose original dates that will be replaced by the new dates.

4. Use Google Keep to Evernote Converter

You can download an archive of Keep notes using Google Takeout. However, takeout stores all the files in HTML format, so you need to convert these files into XML format recognized by Evernote.

Someone at GitHub was kind enough to write a python script to make this happen. If this is something you can do, head over to GitHub to see the script.

Enable Picture-in-Picture Mode on Google Chrome for YouTube

Google released the final stable release of the Chrome version 69 to the public recently. The latest version of Chrome comes with several new features including a substantial UI and design changes. However, one feature, in particular, is rather interesting or should I say something that I wanted to see in Chrome for a long time now. Google Chrome now supports a new Picture-in-Picture mode feature. In this post, we tell you what is PIP in Chrome and how to enable Picture-in-Picture mode on Google Chrome.

Picture in Picture Mode YouTube on Google ChromeIf you use Facebook on the desktop you may have noticed when you scroll past a video; it starts floating on the corner of the screen allowing you to scroll through other feeds in Facebook while the video is playing as an overlay on the screen.

Picture-in-Picture Mode in Google Chrome works similarly but for YouTube (other streaming services may support in future). If you like to watch YouTube videos while browsing other tabs, you just need to right-click twice on the video and select Picture Mode. The YouTube video will continue playing at the corner of your Laptop or PC screen. You can, of course, adjust the size of the video screen a little bit than the default size and also move the video window by dragging and dropping it to anywhere on the screen.

The good thing about this feature is that it is not browser dependent. So, even if you minimize Chrome and open any other application on your PC, the video will continue to play without any problem. Pip (Picture-in-Picture) is also useful if you have the habit of reading comments while watching videos on YouTube. This way you can watch videos while browsing comments in YouTube Desktop.

Now that you know what Picture-in-Picture Mode in Chrome is, it is time to enable it. Picture-in-Picture Mode on Chrome is disabled by default, so you need to enable it from the Chrome’s experiments section first.

Enable Picture-in-Picture Mode on Chrome for YouTube

Here are the steps to follow to play YouTube videos on a floating screen.

1. Open Google Chrome.

2. In the address bar, type chrome://flags/#enable-surfaces-for-videos and hit enter. Simply copy paste and hit enter.

Enable Use of Surface Layer Object for Videos YouTube PiP Chrome3. The option will be highlighted in Yellow and is set to Default.

4. Click the Drop-down button and select Enabled. The browser will ask you to relaunch, but ignore the message for now.

5. Next, type chrome://flags/#enable-picture-in-picture in the address bar.

Enable Picture in Picture YouTube Google Chrome

6. The highlighted option will be set to Default. Click the drop-down button and select Enabled.

You need to restart the browser by clicking on Relaunch Now button.

Use Picture-in-Picture Mode

On Google Chrome, open YouTube. Play the video that you want to play in a floating window or Picture-in-Picture mode. Once the advertisement is over, right-click twice on the video.

YouTube Picture in Picture Chrome Right ClickFrom the options, select “Picture in Picture”. The video will start playing in a small floating window in the corner of your desktop.

You can easily resize the video like any other desktop application and reposition it by dragging anywhere on the screen. The window by default will be on top of all the other applications on your screen.

The pause and resume function work the way it used to on YouTube player. If you have Auto-play enabled on YouTube, the next video will start playing automatically. When the Picture in Picture mode is active, the YouTube tab on Chrome will show a small blue square icon notifying that the video is playing in PIP mode.

Picture-in-Picture Mode feature is platform independent, and you should be able to get it working on Mac, Windows, and Ubuntu machines as long as you are running the Chrome Version 69 and above.

What are you waiting for? Get going and give Pip a try and let us know how you are planning to use the Picture-in-Picture Mode on Google Chrome.

How to Cast Android Screen to Windows 10 PC the Easy Way

Windows 10 comes with Connect app installed by default. And if you own an Android phone running Android 4.2 and above, you may know that the Android device comes with a built-in Wireless display feature (Miracast). So, if you want to cast Android screen to Windows 10 PC without using any third-party software, you can use Connect and Wireless display features to mirror Android screen to PC.

Android-Screen-Cast-Mirroring-Windows-10-PC

Requirements

To be able to cast Android screen to Windows 10, your devices need to meet specific requirements. You don’t need the latest of the lot, but if you own anything below Android 4.2 and earliest version of Windows 10, it is time to upgrade it.

  • For PCWindows 10 build 1607 and above running on Intel 3rd Gen CPU.

If you are unsure which version of Windows 10 you are running, then open the Cortana/ Search bar and type Connect.

From the options, if you see the Connect app, that means your Windows 10 version meets the requirement.

If you want to find out the Windows 10 version you are running for future reference, here is how to do find it.

  1. In Cortana/Search bar type, About.
  2. From the options select About your PC option.Windows 10 PC About
  3. In the About page, you can find the Version below Edition section.
  • For Android – Android device running on Android 4.2 and above. The latest the better.

My Specification

For this demonstration, I am using an Android phone running on Android 7.0 Naugat and Windows 10 Home 1607 32-bit version OS for PC.

Mirror Android Screen to Windows 10

Now that you met all the requirements, it is time to configure the
Connect app and connect the Android device to PC using Wireless-display feature on your phone.

Launch Connect app by typing Connect in the search bar.

Connect App Windows 10 Search

Connect screen will show your Laptop name and “is ready for you to connect wirelessly” message.

Connect Windows 10 App

On the Android device go to Settings > Network > More. Or Settings > Display > Cast. The setting for Wireless display may differ based on the OEM of your phone.

Make sure WiFi tethering (WiFi Hotspot) on your smartphone is Off.

Tap on Wireless Display option.
Android-wirelesss-display-settings

Tap OK when asked to turn on Wi-Fi.

Your device will search and display your Laptop as Wireless display ready to connect.

Android-Wireless-Display-connected-Miracast

Tap on your Laptop/PC name. In a few seconds, your Android phone will start mirroring the screen on your PC, and a connected message will appear on your phone.

Whatever you do on your Android phone will now be visible on your PC as well. However, not all apps work with screen mirroring. For example, Netflix. I will talk about it later in this post.

Android-wireless-display-disconnect

If you want to disconnect mirroring, tap on the Wireless display name and select Disconnect.

What can you do by Casting Android Screen to Windows 10 PC?

Well, you can do anything you do on your Android phone but on the large screen of your PC which is typically 15.6″ or bigger or maybe a little less than that.

Show Presentation – If you are at the office and want to show a presentation from your Android phone to PC connected to a projector, you can do it by mirroring your phone.

Watch Movies and Play Games – If you have downloaded a movie on your phone but want to watch it on a large screen, Android screen mirroring can help you do that. The audio from the videos will come through either speaker connected to your PC or headphone.

You can also play games on a large screen. I played Limbo and Shadow Fight 3 on my Android phone while mirroring it to PC, and the experience was good. There was little to no lag. However, if you play games like Asphalt, you may see a good amount of delay depending on your Phone and PC hardware.

Do All Apps Work with Windows 10 Screen Casting?

Since you are mirroring Android screen to PC, everything on your phone screen should appear on the PC screen, right? Technically yes, but some apps don’t work that way. For example, if you want to watch downloaded Netflix shows by mirroring it to the PC, the Netflix app does not cast any video but only audio and subtitles.

Netflix don't work with Connect Apps Windows and Android Wireless Display Screen Cast

As you can see in the image above which is captured during the Netflix Android app screen mirroring session.

Action Center Windows 10 Protected Content can't be viewed on this device

In the Windows  10 Action Center, you will find the answer to this issue. The action bar shows a notification from Connect that says “Protected content can’t be viewed on this app”.  Which means it is not a glitch but rather an anti-piracy feature which doesn’t make any sense because if you have a Netflix account, you can watch it even on PC.  Netflix does have Windows app and web version but I would rather see the app support screen mirroring like all the other apps.

The Connect app on Windows 10 is the best way to cast Android screen to PC. You don’t need to deal with third-party apps on your phone and PC, nor it has any limitations as such. Yes, when the phone is connected to PC, you can’t use your PC unless you disconnect the Wireless display, but that is not a deal breaker.
